Job Description

The postdoctoral scientist will develop and employ a variety of computational tools to analyze DNA methylation and other large-scale epigenomic datasets. The work will involve the following: § Develop, implement and adapt software tools to analyze array-based and sequencing-based DNA methylation and epigenomic data § Develop, implement and adapt software tools to integrate other related omics data types, such as single-cell transcriptome and epigenome data § Analyze, interpret and summarize results of analysis § Be well-organized and report progress regularly to PIs § Participate and present findings in weekly meetings § Publish findings in peer reviewed journals § Attend present findings at scientific meetings in and outside of the Los Angeles area


Experience: Works independently on research projects designed by a mentor (typically the PI) within area of specialization. Acquires thorough technical and theoretical knowledge of research project and objectives during one to five (1-5) year post-doctoral appointment. Demonstrated aptitude to perform experimental protocols and procedures, including detailed data collection, and analysis and operation and maintenance of specialized equipment. Knowledge of safety standards and maintenance of specialized equipment.


PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Physics, or related field

The candidate should be comfortable in an HPC (cluster) or Cloud environment. They should be fully proficient in at least one programming or scripting language (e.g. Java or Python) and at least one mathematical package (e.g. R or MATLAB). The ideal candidate will have a strong undergraduate or graduate level understanding of statistics, probability and algorithms. The ideal candidate will have a background working with high-throughput genomic data (especially DNA methylation or other epigenomic marks), and a general understanding of cancer biology.
